RatPack Recommends - Our Fave East Coast Hostels

Hostels hostels hostels….. Other than ‘are you travelling up or down?’ ‘Where are you going next?’ and ‘Where are you from?’.... ‘What hostel are you staying in next?’ will be one of your most asked questions whilst you are travelling in Aussie.

What are hostels all about?

Hostels are a travellers best friend when it comes to meeting absolute legends that turn into travel buddies and having crazy experiences that you’ll never forget. Trust us, you will learn some cracking drinking games, how to drink goon, witness some strange concoctions in the kitchen and you’ll see some hilarious drunken antics…. {We won’t talk about the streaking around a hostel in Agnes Water after a competitive game of drunken Jenga!}.

Australia is FULL of hostels, in the majority of spots you will be spoilt for choice of good quality hostels in great locations, with awesome facilities, events and good value for money. We love hostels in aussie because you’ll bump into the same faces up/down the east coast and will become pals with a lot of legends!

How do you book & find hostels?

Here at RatPack we don't book accommodation for you along the way as we feel it's best to free flow down the coast booking up hostel nights as you go {note. Peak season you need to be a little more prepared}... We instead book the bits we can SAVE you money on. We can now book you any trip or transport in both Oz and NZ and give you at least 10% off the direct price so shout us if you need help.

We tend to book our hostels through hostelworld {#NotAnAd}, or by booking direct… top tip - this can save you money as sometimes you can get a discount! With YHA you can get epacks which save you money per night and with a hostels australia card you can get $3 off a night, every little helps!

The best way to find out about hostels is through other travellers whilst on the road, blogs, or to help you out a bit the RatPack crew have pulled together their favourite east coast hostels…..

RatPack tips when it comes to hostel life!

  • If you are travelling in the busy season AKA December & January, book your hostels in advance, ESPECIALLY Christmas and New Years.
  • Earplugs can sometimes be an essential {sometimes you’ll get a snorer}
  • Take a padlock with you as there will be lockers in each room
  • Be considerate to your roommates, you’ll never know when you’ll bump into them again!
  • Make the most of the hostel events, this is a great way to meet people. If theres a bar crawl, join it, if theres a kitchen, compliment someone on their food!
