Ways to see the Yellow Water Billabong

At the heart of the Kakadu National Park lies the epic Yellow Water Billabong. For lovers of the World Heritage sites, this is definitely one for your top 10! You’ll find this sweet spot between South Alligator River and Jim Jim Creek, it’s Kakadu’s most visited wetland. There’s so many awesome things to see up here including swamps, rivers and floodplains {just be careful of the crocs!}. What’s the best way to see the Yellow Water? We’ll tell ya!

Get cruisinnnnnnn

Many who head to the Yellow Water Billabong go for the flashpacker option of a river cruise. Guided by its super chill waters, a cruise is for sure the most comfortable way that travellers can tour the interior wetlands. We’re not kidding when we say that this journey will take your breath away with its paperbark forests that line the shores and water mangroves together with pink water lilies on the surface #instatime. These 2hr cruises come with an onboard guide/local legend and leave at different times during the day. If you love abit of nature and checking out the birds {literal birds ;)}, the river cruise is money well spent as the Yellow Water Billabong has so much to offer!

Fishing for likes….

Another true aussie way to experience the Yellow Water Billabong is by getting on a Yellow Water Fishing tour. Travellers have the chance of trying their hand at angling a Barramundi from the Northern Territory. The Yellow Water Billabong offers the most unreal scenic backdrops and locations to fish. If you catch a good un {that’s within the legal limit} it’s yours to cook up for dinner.

Take a stroll

If you’re not that savvy with rod and bait, you could choose to experience the Yellow Water Billabong by foot. Travellers who don't fancy a boat tour can still get a glimpse of the billabong from a boardwalk. This boardwalk tour is often closed during the wet-season as the billabong swells with all the rain and that would be a snorkel trip...
