Tour Info

Fancy escaping to a tropical island for the day and hanging out with turtles? Us too! Fitzroy Island is a beautiful escape from the craziness of Cairns and the perfect tropical paradise! Just a 45 minute ferry cruise from Cairns will take you to Fitzroy Island whilst enjoying the stunning scenery and keeping to the calm coastline waters.

You’ll love the true island vibe and the unspoilt, uncrowded sandy beaches of Fitzroy and will have a full day to explore the island by one of the many walking tracks, relaxing on one of the beaches under a palm tree, snorkel the reef spotting turtles or seeing it by kayak! This trip offers ultimate freedom and you have the option to add on extras when you arrive on the island at the beach hut such as kayaking, snorkel hire, paddleboarding, ocean trampoline, glass bottom boat tour or a visit to the turtle rehab centre that cares for injured turtles.

Where else can you walk out directly from the beach and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef? A fringing coral reef surrounds the island and provides a sheltered home for a huge variety of coral species, tropical fish, turtles and manta rays! This is one of our favourite spot for seeing turtles in their true habitat without the influx of too many tourists. {one RatPacker even spent 15 minutes hanging out with a green sea turtle - that’s the kind of authentic experience we like!}

{RatPack Recommends} - Things To Do On Fitzroy Island- Snorkel directly from the beach, explore the reef and hang out with turtles, manta rays and fish!- Visit the turtle rehabilitation centre and see how they care for injured turtles*- Jump on the giant ocean trampoline *- Go on a glass bottom boat tour and learn about the reef*- Rent a kayak and go on a sea kayaking half day tour*

- Go paddleboarding!* - Relax on Australia’s number #2 beach - Nudey Beach {FYI Nudey doesn’t mean it’s a nudist beach, swimmers on RatPackers!}- Bush walk on the National Park walking tracks around the island

*extra fees apply, beach hire equipment available at the beach hut
