Tour Overview:

The Great Ocean Road is THE roadie of all roadies. We love this one because of its world famous epic views all the way along the coast just west of Melbourne.. Whilst on the Great Ocean Road not only will you enjoy the banter of a roadtrip whilst with the legends from Groovy Grape but you’ll also see the unreal 12 Apostles {spoiler… there’s now only 8}, absolute beaut beaches and rock formations all the way along the Shipwreck Coast.

This tour will take you to the Great Ocean Road and to the BEAUT Grampians National Park which offers hundreds of unreal views! A trip here means you’ll be able to explore the Grampians by foot and see unreal waterfalls, climb up to incredible look out points and check out the local wildlife that live there, we can’t get enough of the amazing landscapes that the Grampians has to offer and is a must visit for a nature lover/hiker/explorer!

One thing is for sure that these legends BRING THE BANTER, and we love em for it. You’ll start your group tour in Adelaide where you’ll escape the city hustle and into nature, you’ll head to Halls Gap which is THE gateway to the famed Grampians National Park. Hope you’re ready for some beaut scenes as this is exactly what you are going to get with this spot! An easy hour walk through rocky outcrops and forests will lead you to The Balconies which is another stunning geological formation! Whilst in the grampians you’ll be seeing some epic spots we’re talking - the Pinnacle which offers the BEST viewpoint, the Brambuk Cultural centre and the tower hill reserve which is a dormant volcano.

Time to hit up the beauty that is the Great Ocean Road, you’ll be visiting some unreal rock formations {don’t geek out on us you’ll get it when you visit!} along the shipwreck coast with the most renowned being the Twelve Apostles which you’ll see at Sunset {RPT Recommends - if ya feeling flashy you have the opportunity to see it by helicopter}. En route back to Melbourne you’ll visit Great Otway National Park, explore the beachy villages of Apollo Bay and Lorne, visit Kennett River Koalas to watch the cuddly creatures in the wild, before heading through Geelong on the way to city!

Included in this trip is all of your food {YEwwwww} and 2 nights of accommodation whilst you are on the tour. We love this adventure as it gets you from Adelaide to Melbourne, it’s the roadtrips of all roadtrips and the guys at Groovy Grape are awesome.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Melbourne to Lorne

We begin the ultimate road trip, cruising towards the Great Ocean Road and stop to watch surfers in action at famed beaches such as Bells Beach and Torquay (home of surf brands Rip Curl and Quicksilver). We also visit artistic beachside villages of Apollo Bay and Lorne. We’ll stop at the historical section of the Great Ocean Road that was carved through cliffs by returned World War I servicemen. We take a walk through the Great Otway National Park, home to some of the world’s oldest temperate rainforest. There’s no better place to finish the day than the famed Twelve Apostles. This spectacular collection of limestone stacks is best appreciated at sunset from the boardwalk. Take the opportunity to view this spectacular sight from the skies in a helicopter (extra cost). Tonight, we sleep in dormitory style accommodation in the dormitory rooms of a backpacker’s hostel on the Great Ocean Road.

Day 2: Lorne to MacKenzie Falls

We continue along the Great Ocean Road, stopping at several extraordinary rock formations along the Shipwreck Coast, such as the Bay of Martyrs, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge. We enjoy lunch at Tower Hill Reserve, the site of a dormant volcano, lake, wetlands and habitat to lots of wildlife: emus, koalas, kangaroos, possums, echidnas and many types of birds. We enter the Grampians National Park in the afternoon, where we visit the Brambuk Cultural Centre to learn about local Aboriginal history, before taking a walk (40 minutes) to MacKenzie Falls. Before sunset when the local wildlife, such as wallabies, kangaroos and kookaburras come out to play, we walk (an easy hour) to The Balconies, which provides a magnificent viewpoint and photo opportunity of the surrounding ranges and valleys. Tonight we sleep in shared wood cabin accommodation, with the mountains towering around us.

Day 3: Pinnacle and Grampians National Park

We get up to hike a challenging 2 hours to the Pinnacle in the Grampians National Park, but it’s worth the effort for such awe inspiring views. We will enjoy lunch in the Grampians National Park before hitting the highway and arriving into Adelaide city at approximately 7pm.

Please remember, sometimes our itinerary must be flexible due to road and weather conditions. The hike to the Pinnacle is the most challenging walk on the tour through rough terrain, a reasonable level of fitness is required.
